Think Family

One clip that is gaining so much attention in YouTube (No, I am not talking about those sex video scandals.) is the “Funeral” Family television commercial that the National Family Council in Singapore released recently.  It shows a moving eulogy of a wife for her late husband. When asked to share a few words for her dearly departed, she stepped up and said, “I am not going to sing praises for my late husband. Not today. Neither am I going to talk about how good he was. Enough people have done that here. Instead I want to talk about some things that would make some of you feel a bit uncomfortable.” Then she shared about her husband’s loud snoring and farting. Nervous laughter rippled through the funeral function room. Then, trying to hold back tears, she shared how she came to appreciate it. “Towards the end of his life, when his illness was at its worst, these sounds indicated to me that my [husband] was still alive. And what I would give just to hear those sounds again before

Crowning Glory (Update)

Miss California Carrie Prejean stirred the proverbial hornet’s nest when she declared her personal, Christian conviction that she disagrees with same-sex marriage. It appears the hornets are still angrily buzzing and viciously biting. Right now there are threats of stripping her of her crown as Miss California. It’s from Jeremiah 29:11.) They will be distributing gifts to young patients in the cancer ward, courtesy of Operation Christmas Child. It was a rainy Thursday morning. On the way we got snarled in traffic. We were running late. Yet, it did not even dampen their excitement. They were so eager to put a smile on the face of a child suffering from the Big C. I could almost hear the Spirit whisper, “THIS is church .” I first read those words in Bill Hybel’s “Axiom.” Hybels wrote, “Christ said he was going to build ‘his church’— a community of real people with real, beating hearts that would be attentive to each other and responsive to each other and quick to extend mercy and grace and love. ” Our Couples Fellowship will be launching on May 16 the “Managing Your Finances God’s Way” series.
